Michigan alimony or spousal support may be awarded to either party if the property distribution to that party is insufficient to allow that spouse to support him or herself. A Michigan Court will consider the following factors in determining alimony or spousal support: 

  • the ability of either spouse to pay; 

  • the character and situation of the spouses; and 

  • all other circumstances of the case.
