Maryland Child Support
Maryland child support is
based upon guidelines that assist the Court in
calculating child support. The amount of child support arrived at under the
Maryland guidelines will be presumed to be correct. However, if it is shown that the
amount of child support calculated under the Maryland guidelines is unjust or
inappropriate, the Court may modify the amount of child support. In determining
whether the amount would be unjust, A Maryland court may consider:
-
the terms of any marital settlement agreement between the
parents, including any provisions for payments of marital debts, mortgages,
college education expenses, the right to occupy the family home, and any
other financial terms; and
-
the presence in the household of either parent of other
children that the parent has a duty to support.
