Iowa Divorce Residency Requirements 

The party filing for an Iowa divorce must have lived in the State of Iowa for at least one year. If the non-filing party is a residence of Iowa and was personally served with the divorce papers, there is no residency requirement for the spouse filing the dissolution of marriage.

Iowa Divorce Filing Requirements

An Iowa divorce action may be filed in the county where either party resides.

Iowa Divorce Grounds

The only ground for Iowa divorce is as follows: the breakdown of the marriage relationship to the extent that the legitimate objects of matrimony have been destroyed and there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved.
